Betsy owner Plutzik aims for top of pyramid

For Jonathan Plutzik, it’s about art and relationships, so it’s no surprise that the two are fused in The Betsy-South Beach in Miami Beach, Florida, which he co-owns with his wife, Lesley Goldwasser-Plutzik.

Goldwasser-Plutzik manages art and music for the hotel, which is known for its cultural programming and community engagement, as well as its nine art galleries. Their son is a co-owner and managing director of the property. And Plutzik’s sister does much of the arts and cultural programming.

As the 130-room hotel prepares for its reopening tomorrow, Plutzik is optimistic but also a little preoccupied with how relationships with his guests will change as a result of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

“What are people going to value? How are you going to treat them – both the same because they’re coming back to be treated somewhat the same, and how are you going to treat them differently?” he asked in our latest HOTELSLife interview

(And find out how he’s answering some of those questions at The Betsy in part two of the interview.)

“It’s just different. But I think people are figuring it out.”
