COVID Briefs: Europeans eyeing spring travel | But are Brits and Americans ready?

Europeans increasingly eager to travel during this spring

Spring 2021 is now firmly in the sights of travelers, according to a new report from the European Travel Commission. With news for approved COVID-19 vaccines, Europeans sentiment towards domestic and intra-regional travel continues to improve, with 52% of respondents saying they intend to travel in the next six months.

Has COVID-19 affected Brits’ and Americans’ love of travel?

Given the disruption to the travel industry brought on by the pandemic, London-based research data and analytics group YouGov is now asking, “What has happened to travel interest among Brits and Americans during that time?” While travel remained the third most popular interest in the UK, there were fewer Brits interested in travel in 2020 than there were in 2019 prior to the pandemic (43% vs. 46%). By comparison, American interest in travel remained steady at pre-pandemic levels throughout 2020. Slightly more than a third of Americans (35%) said they were interested in travel in 2019 and 2020 and the subject is the seventh most popular general interest in both years.
