People on the move: Four Seasons, Preferred, Marquis

Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts appointed Isabel Pintado senior vice president, design and innovation, a newly created role for the company. Pintado is tasked with advancing the group’s design vision and aesthetic across its global portfolio, while also engaging cross-functionality throughout the organization to enhance the company’s programming at each touchpoint. Pintado led several top design studios around the world before joining Four Seasons. In 2020, Design Middle East magazine ranked Pintado number one on its annual Creative 30 Power List.

“Four Seasons has always been at the forefront in the design space with a legacy of industry-leading innovation that is firmly grounded in the guest experience, and an authenticity further shaped by the locations in which it operates,” said Pintado. “I am optimistic that we are on the cusp of an exciting period for the luxury hospitality industry, as we continue to create inspiring and exceptional design experiences for our guests, residents and employees.”

Stonehill named Nick Baer vice president of business development. Baer most recently served as vice president at Jones Land LaSalle (JLL), where he was responsible for arranging roughly US$7 billion in acquisitions, construction and refinancing for individual hotel assets and portfolios. Before his time with the investment banking team, Baer was responsible for the disposition of single assets and portfolios for JLL’s hotel investment sales division.

Pyramid Hotel Group named Brian Berry executive vice president of commercial strategy and Peter Karpinski executive vice president of operations, independent and lifestyle hotels. Berry is a 30-year industry veteran. Prior to this role, he was senior vice president of global revenue management for Hyatt Hotels. Previously, he held similar positions as senior vice president of sales and data analytics with Cvent, Inc., and senior vice president of global revenue management at Host Hotels & Resorts. Karpinski formerly was a partner, officer and executive committee member at Sage Hospitality Group, where he co-founded Sage Restaurant Group. He also co-founded Arrive Hotels & Restaurants. Karpinski has held operational, and food and beverage roles with companies including Four Seasons Hotels, Caesar’s Palace and Star Restaurant Organization.

Kohler Hospitality & Real Estate appointed Rubén Cambero Sedano general manager of The American Club and Inn on Woodlake, both in Kohler, Wisconsin, and Shawn Dortman general manager of Lodge Kohler in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Cambero Sedano spent his early years working at his family’s property, Hotel el Peregrino in Navarra, Spain, transforming it into a Relais & Châteaux property. He came to the U.S. in 2014 and has held leadership roles at Antrim 1844 Country House Hotel in Taneytown, Maryland, and the Inn at Dos Brisas in Brenham, Texas. For the past three years, he has served as general manager at MacArthur Place Hotel and Spa in Sonoma, California. Dortman has been with Kohler for 23 years. She started her career in health care before her recruitment to Kohler Hospitality. Most recently, she served as resident manager of The American Club and Inn on Woodlake. Dortman is a coach and mentor, and a leader in culture and diversity, equity and inclusion.

Lauren Clevenger is general manager at Amara Cay Resort in Islamorada, Florida. Clevenger has more than 10 years of customer service experience. Before becoming general manager, she worked her way through the Islamorada Resort Collection as a front desk guest services manager and events coordinator.

Sonesta International Hotels Corp. appointed Garine Ferejian-Mayo chief commercial officer. Ferejian-Mayo joined the company from InterContinental Hotels Group where she was the company’s head of commercial for its Core-Managed Hotels & Luxury division. She began her career at Interstate Hotels & Resorts, and has held several leadership roles at Fairmont, Loews and Starwood Hotels.

East West Hospitality hired Donna Horii as the national group sales manager at The Charter at Beaver Creek in Beaver Creek, Colorado. Horii, who has more than 30 years of hospitality experience, most recently was business development manager for the Colorado Hotel and Lodging Association. She also previously served as director of sales for the Breckenridge Tourism Office and held sales positions with the Grand Junction Visitor & Convention Bureau, Visit Denver and the Keystone Resort & Conference Center.

Boca Raton Resort & Club in Boca Raton, Florida, named Daniel Hostettler president. Hostettler spent the past 12 years as president and group managing director of Ocean House Management Collection where he oversaw five New England properties. While serving as president of Boca Raton Resort & Club, Hostettler will continue his role as North American president of Relais & Châteaux, working with 88 properties in the U.S., Mexico, Canada and the Caribbean. He is also a member of the Cornell Hotel Society, a trustee of the Culinary Institute of America and a visiting professor at Johnson & Wales University.

Access Point Financial (APF) appointed Michael Lipson chief executive officer. He also continues his role as chairman of the board for APF. Lipson has more than 40 years of financial and banking expertise. Prior to working with APF, he held several leadership roles including senior vice president, multifamily asset management and operations for Freddie Mac, president and chief CEO for Berkadia Commercial Mortgage, and president and founder of Lexington Mortgage Company.

Preferred Hotels & Resorts promoted Jonathan Newbury to executive vice president of Asia Pacific. Newbury brings 30 years of international independent hotel experience to the role. He joined Preferred in July 2008, first serving as vice president of brand development, and most recently as senior vice president of strategic development. Prior to joining Preferred, Newbury spent three years as vice president of global development for Small Luxury Hotels of the World, where he supported brand growth with a focus on Asia. He has also served as operations director for VIP Ski, which operates chalets, hotels and resorts across the French and Austrian Alps, and held on-property sales and marketing positions with both The Langham Hotels and Resorts, and Thistle Hotels brands. Preferred also welcomed Christopher Ahlgrim as vice president of development. Prior to joining Preferred, Ahlgrim spent more than seven years with Global Hotel Alliance, most recently as regional head of development for the Americas.

Garrett Parker is general manager of Hilton Salt Lake City, Utah. Parker previously served as hotel manager at Hilton San Francisco Union Square. In the past, he’s held management positions at Hilton Baltimore, and at Washington, D.C. properties including Capital Hilton, Washington Hilton and Embassy Suites D.C. Convention Center. In 2016, he became hotel manager of Parc 55 in San Francisco.

Marquis Los Cabos in Los Cabos, Mexico, named Claudia Perez director of sales and marketing, and Fabián Calderón operations manager. Perez, who has a decade of global and regional experience, most recently served as sales and marketing director for Azul Talavera Hotel Puebla and Rosewood Puebla, both in Puebla, Mexico. Calderón has held leadership roles at myriad properties throughout Mexico and Canada, including at partner property Marquis Reforma Hotel & Spa in Mexico City, The St. Regis Mexico City, Four Seasons Resort Whistler and Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita.

Outrigger Hospitality appointed Chryssaldo Thomas area general manager for Ohana Waikiki East by Outrigger and Waikiki Malia by Outrigger in Honolulu; Carly Clement general manager of Outrigger Waikiki Beach Resort in Honolulu; Edwin Torres general manager of Waikiki Beachcomber by Outrigger in Honolulu; and So’o Tana hotel manager of Waikiki Malia by Outrigger. Thomas joined Outrigger as resort manager at Outrigger Reef Waikiki Beach Resort in Honolulu. Prior, he worked at the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort & Spa in Koloa, Hawaii, as director of rooms; rooms executive at the Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay in Tampa, Florida; and at the Hyatt Lodge McDonald’s Campus in Oakbrook, Illinois. Clement joined Outrigger as a resort manager at the Outrigger Reef Waikiki Beach Resort. Prior to Outrigger, she was director of rooms for Hyatt and The Modern Honolulu and held various roles at Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts and Starwood Hotels & Resorts worldwide. Torres joined Outrigger as food and beverage director at Outrigger Guam Beach Resort. Before this, his work experience included director of event operations for the Grand Hotel Marriott in Point Clear, Alabama; food and beverage director at W Retreat & Spa Vieques Island, Puerto Rico, and for Scrub Island Resort, Spa & Marina in British Virgin Islands. Tana started as a night auditor at Outrigger Waikiki Village and Coral Seas Hotel, now Embassy Suites by Hilton Waikiki Beach Walk. Since then, Tana has worked at various properties as a guest services manager, front office manager and assistant hotel manager.

Chartwell Hospitality appointed Martin Wormull general manager of Conrad Nashville, opening early 2022 in Nashville, Tennessee. With more than 30 years of luxury and boutique hotel experience, Wormull most recently was general manager of The Candler Hotel Atlanta. He worked on Hilton’s luxury brand team for two years, and at hotels including The Drake Hotel in Chicago, Conrad Miami and Conrad Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
