Briefs: Update on Barrière in New York; more wins for Hay Creek Hotels

Update on Barrière’s entry in New York: Set for a summer 2022 opening, new details have emerged on the development of the 97-room Hôtel Barrière Fouquet’s New York, being developed in the Tribeca district by Caspi Development and operated by the French hotel group. The design firm has been announced as Martin Brudnizki and amenities will include an outpost of the historic French brasserie Fouquet’s; Spa Diane Barrière with a spa pool; state of the art Cannes screening room; and a rooftop terrace. The GM will be Gilles Stellardo, most recently with The Mercer Hotel in New York City.

More wins for Hay Creek: Victory Hotel Partners, Denver, Colorado, announced six new agreements closed in the 4th quarter of 2021 after its acquisition of Hay Creek Hotels earlier this year. Among the hotels being added to the current Hay Creek portfolio of 21 hotels: The Embers Hotel in Blowing Rock, North Carolina in which Hay Creek Hotels will be in collaboration with the developer, Catellus Group, on the design, concept and positioning of this 36- room full-service boutique hotel slated to open in May 2023; The McEntire River Runner Hotel in Decatur, Alabama, is part of greater development theme for the town of Decatur aimed to revitalize the riverfront area. Hay Creek will collaborate with developers, Libby Patrick and Sherri Hofherr on concepting, positioning and design of the project, which will include 65 guest rooms and suites projected to open in late 2023; The Harwin Hotel in Charleston, South Carolina, where Hay Creek is collaborating with the developers, King & Society Real Estate, on the concept, positioning and design of this 30-room hotel planned to open mid 2022; The Mizpah Hotel and Belvada Hotel in Tonopah, Nevada, are historic hotels owned and restored by Fred and Nancy Cline The Mizpah Hotel and Belvada Hotel in Tonopah, Nevada are both historic hotels owned and restored by Fred and Nancy Cline, winery owners based in Sonoma, California. Hay Creek will operate the hotels as well as Tonopah Brewing Company; The 73-suite Hotel Hartness in Greenville, South Carolina, has already broken ground and slated to open in mid 2022. Hay Creek, is now focused on adding new properties along the west coast, particularly in the Napa Valley and Sonoma regions of California.

F1 Grand Prix drives Jeddah’s hotels to record performance: Jeddah saw its highest ADR and RevPAR till date boosted by the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, according to preliminary data from STR. The market’s ADR and RevPAR was (US$454.75) and SAR1,517.92 (US$404.21) on December 4 (the day before the F1 Grand Prix), the highest for a day in STR’s Jeddah database. Daily occupancy peaked at 89.2% on the day of the race and was the market’s highest level since August 25, 2018 (89.3%). The Grand Prix also doubled Jeddah’s hotel performance as compared to previous weeks. Occupancy was 59.8% on November 27, while ADR was SAR612.25 (US$163.03).

Everty acquires in Santorini: Real estate investment company Everty has acquired Iconic Santorini, the 19-suite luxury boutique hotel in Imerovigli in Santorini. This is Everty’s second acquisition in Greece this year. The company has also developed the Petrothalassa Villas in Ermionida in the Peloponnese. Both these investments are part of Everty’s four-year investment program worth €100 million (US$113.11 million) focusing on Greece’s premium hospitality and office sector. The company is a member of the YNV Group, a consortium of multinational groups that operates and invests in several sectors.

BlackSand completes Hawaii resort acquisition: BlackSand Capital, Honolulu, Hawaii, has completed the acquisition of the 500-room Royal Lahaina Resort on Maui, Hawaii, from Pleasant Travel Service. The terms of the sale and financial details were not disclosed. Highgate Hawaii Concession Company, an affiliate of Highgate Hotels, will be operating the hotel. This is the second property that Highgate operates for BlackSand, after the Aston Waikiki Beach Hotel. Stephen Hinck has been named as the resort’s GM.
