What’s Hot: Iconic New York club brought back to life

After being shuttered for more than six decades, the Diamond Horseshoe Club at The Paramount Hotel in New York City has been resurrected.

A collaborative team of designers including Stonehill & Taylor (responsible for architecture and space planning), Meg Sharpe Interiors (which did the interior design) and set designer Douglas Little set out to create a theatrical immersion that was woven into the space, called “Queen of the Night.” Stonehill & Taylor’s vision started with curvy shapes that suggest movement and are inspired by the oval motif of the original 1940s space.

While few of the elements could be preserved after the club’s prolonged closure, the team used architectural details to pay tribute to architect Thomas Lamb’s vision. The side arches and central oval motif recall Lamb’s work, as does a frieze. A few things were restored, like a display case at the foot of the main stair. The team also had to tackle the technical challenges of designing a space that could be performed in. Acoustic barriers were installed to dampen the noise of the live shows in the club (the hotel is just one story up).
