What’s Hot: Indonesian resort debuts new villas

Balancing local flavor, global standards and the authenticity of the experience are key for any resort destination’s design.  For the nine new villas in Nihiwatu, Sumba, the brief was to create inviting spaces that showcased local culture.

The star of the design here is the architecture, derived from local traditions. Its open, airy feel provides a soothing backdrop for interiors that use cool tones and light textures to keep the vibe effortless.  Delicate curtains trim windows without blocking the view or the light.

The designers also wanted to bring the local culture into the details of the design.So, the used the accessories help to tell the local story. Each villa is decorated with pieces that have cultural significance in Sumba. Wood and stone carvings resemble those use in local rights symbolizing the link between the human and spirit worlds. Ikat prints are part of local storytelling.
