Briefs: New Playa property | Kirkwood Collection grows

Playa completes sale of Capri Hotel: Playa Hotels & Resorts N.V., owner, operator and developer of all-inclusive resorts in beachfront locations in vacation destinations in Mexico and the Caribbean, has completed the sale of the Capri Hotel for $55 million in cash. As per a franchise agreement, the new owner will rebrand the resort as Hyatt Zilara Riviera Maya, following renovations. Fairfax, Virginia-based Playa will manage the repositioned property. The transaction increased Playa’s liquidity by approximately US$48.8 million and proceeds from the sale will be used for general business purposes and reducing the company’s outstanding debt.

Famed Seven Gables Inn sells: Boutique operator Kirkwood Collection has acquired the 25-key Seven Gables Inn on Monterey Bay, Monterey, California, from private owners Susan Flatley Wheelwright and Ed Flatley. The deal expands Kirkwood’s portfolio to six properties. This recent acquisition follows Beverly Hills, California-based Kirkwood’s addition and renovation of Garden Street Inn in San Luis Obispo and continues its expansion into California vacation destinations, including Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, Rancho Mirage and Palm Springs.

Villa rental segment deal: London-based private villa rental and custom-journey provider Red Savannah has acquired Homebase Abroad, a U.S.-based company specializing in vacation rentals exclusively in the Italian villa market. The deal effectively expands Red Savannah’s U.S. clientele network and enhances its portfolio of luxury villa properties. Homebase Abroad is Red Savannah’s first acquisition. The Homebase Abroad team will continue to oversee all villa vacations booked for 2021. Homebase Founder and Director Mara Solomon in 2022 will remain closely involved as a Red Savannah Ambassador. The U.S. is currently Red Savannah’s second-largest market, representing 45% of its business, and much of the growth in recent years has been in Europe and especially the luxury villa sector.

Element Anaheim management: Lodging Dynamics Hospitality Group, Provo, Utah, has been appointed to operate the newly constructed, 174-suite Element Anaheim Resort Convention Center. This appointment follows its recent announcement of the management of two additional Hilton branded hotels in San Diego.

Hilton F&B credit official: Hilton Honors in July will roll out a Daily Food & Beverage Credit in the U.S. for gold and diamond members. The credit will be available as a Hilton Honors MyWay benefit at more than 1,500 hotels across the U.S. The US$10 to US$25 credit, depending on the brand and location, will replace the complimentary Continental Breakfast benefit. The credit can be applied to any food or beverage purchases billed to the guest’s room up to the total daily credit value any time of the day.
